How should an SEO work with a client

How I work with my clients - what info do you need to know

How do I work with Clients

We discuss your requirements, work out what needs to be done, and do it… I have listed in detail below the steps followed to achieve optimum SEO for your site.

  1. I outline price ranges for the work required.  Initially to determine if this fits in the website owner’s budget, and if their price range is a little low, look at what could be done with the amount you wish to spend.   If the owner has more in their budget than we have quoted, we also tell you that although the sky is the limit with SEO (well so SEO’s think so) I can offer other options giving even better results than you envisaged.  I usually work on a larger deposit with smaller monthly installments.
  2. I look at your website; see what the general theme of the site is, and generally how it is doing in the search engines right now.
  3. I talk with you to see if there are any special requests (apart from getting the website to do better in search engines than it is now and getting more visitors to the website).  I also ask how much, if any, of the work you want to do yourselves.  Most clients just want the work done, and to know what the results are.
  4. I look at and compose a list of keywords that people actually use to find a website that sells similar products/services, then fine turn the list to suit your website.  Although I might suggest (for example) 20 key phrases, I actually work on all possible versions of those words.  So although a key phrase may be ‘Motel San Diego’, if your motel happens to be by the beach, I would also add all sorts of phrases that included the word beach.
  5. I have a good look at your site and see what must be done, and what could be done, in order of importance, to improve things.  It’s important the website owner is aware that with SEO the sky is the limit but 50 feet above the ground, will be often be enough.... I confirm what the investment in their SEO will be and give this list to the website owner, so you can work it into your advertising budget.  I also send you a short contract, so we both know exactly where we stand with no nasty surprises for either party. Good SEO's work closly with their clients
  6. Once we have your approval for phase one, I set about doing all the necessary work to ensure your website is search engine friendly.  I then place strategic links on busy websites, which I know all major search engines already visit several hundred times a day.  This ensures that your website is listed quickly with those search engines.  Submitting a website to a search engine itself can take weeks before it actually gets around to visiting your website.  This is what most SEO’s do, and I can’t see the sense of waiting 6 weeks when you could have the search engine spiders looking through your site the next day.
  7. While the search engine spiders are working their way around your website, I start on what is called ‘off page optimization’.  This involves building links to your site in several different ways, the most important are what is known as ‘one way links’, which means you don’t have to swap links with anyone.  These one way links are harder to get, but definitely more worthwhile and search engines take them more seriously.  Just a note here, if for some reason your web designer doesn’t want to make changes to a page that I suggest, or doesn’t want me to do them, this ‘off page optimization’ will work, it will just take a little more time for the results to start showing.
  8. That’s basically it for the first stage, it may not sound alot, but then I didn’t comment on the other tricks SEO can do to amaze and astound you!
