Do Your own SEO, How much does it cost

For this example, we’ll say your time is worth $15.00 per hour
You have a website with 10 main informational pages and 50 products to sell, using PayPal to pay, it cost you $2000 and it’s online.

You find the perfect html course and you learn how to write html code in say 30 hours.
$450 for 30 hours learning the tricks of html and writing web page codes.  Only to find out that what you needed to know would have only taken you about an hour if that particular information was in the course as usually it isn’t, its an add-on you learn later.  Or that your website is a database driven website, and therefore you can’t use any of your skills at all.

Then you will need a program to upload your new website pages, there are free ones around, so make that 3 hours to find one that suits your needs and another couple of hours learning how to use the ftp, that’s another $75.

Next you need to learn the secrets of optimization, this would take several hundred hours, so for this we will say you found a SEO program that does it all (well it doesn’t do it all, but helps you do it), we’ll say you spend 30 hours researching, and you found the right SEO program - $450.

Then that SEO program costs you…. now this is a hard one, I haven’t found a SEO program that does everything well, I have 12 programs that do different things very well, which cost me $2500, so for this article we’ll say this comprehensive optimization SEO program costs around $2500.
Now the time to learn how to use that program, remembering you are a computer whiz and have an extremely high IQ, we’ll say 15 hours - another $300, ok you are ready to START optimizing your website, and you have already spent $3475 (more than one and a half times the price of the website). And more than I would have charged to do the SEO for you.

Ok, even with your new SEO program with all the bells and whistles which tells you exactly what to do (oh and by the way, please let me know the name of it when you find it).  Now you will probably find you have to rewrite your webpage content so it’s keyword heavy, but say you don’t, and just add the things it tells you, the very least amount of time it will take is 1 hour per page. 10 pages - $150.  Not finished!  Your wiz bam SEO program starts telling you to do all these other things to promote your website online, write and submit articles, visiting forums and making posts plus several other time consuming things so every night you decide to get on the computer and spend 4 hours doing these other things - 120 hours a month equals $1800 per month.

We’re up to $5425 at about 6 weeks and the 4 hours work a night should really carry on for at least 6 months, then decrease it by one hour a night every 5 months.  I won’t carry on as I’m sure you have the idea.  Just in case you are interested, you are up to $17100 by the end of the first year.  That's 31.5 weeks of your time in one year forgetting about the programmes you brought.

We haven’t counted the cost to your business of you being tied up working on your website when you could have been working on your business.
Since I have learnt all the tricks I can streamline the whole process.  I know what actually works and take advantage of all that, while skipping the things that don’t work or only give mediocre results.

I could do this for you for less than $8000 = $2500 to start and $500 per month for the following 11 months leaving you free to do what you do best – work on your business!
